Join us Saturday, October 3, from 1–3 p.m. on the New Haven village green for the dedication of a monument honoring New Haven native Homer Hulbert and the friendship between the Korean and American peoples.
Born in New Haven in 1863, Hulbert traveled to Korea as a young educator. He became a scholar of Korean language and history and a steadfast advocate for Korean independence. His life offers young Vermonters an example of how curiosity, learning, and the courage to stand alongside others can make a difference far beyond our hometowns.
I’m honored to participate in this celebration welcoming neighbors and guests from Korea. The monument brings together a bronze bust created in Korea and stone from Vermont, a lasting expression of the connection between our communities.
At a time when war and political division can make the world feel fractured, this gathering reminds us that friendship between people can endure. We can learn from one another, stand up for one another’s dignity, and build a more peaceful future together.
I hope you’ll join us.
