I’m Jubilee McGill, a mom of four, community advocate, and your State Representative for Addison-5. I was born and raised in Middlebury, and my husband, Lawrence, and I have called Bridport home since 2016. This is where we’re raising our family and working alongside our neighbors to build a community where everyone has the support and opportunity to thrive.
My work has taken me from affordable housing and homelessness services with a focus on youth, to community recovery services, where I now help strengthen local and state partnerships and connect people with support. Through this work, including current extensive outreach to people experiencing homelessness, I see how much it matters to meet people where they are, listen without judgment, and respect their choices.
At the beginning of the COVID pandemic, I founded Addison County Mutual Aid to help neighbors connect with one another and meet their needs. Across these experiences, I’ve seen how much we can accomplish when we show up for each other and why the people most affected by a decision need a voice in making it.
Life at home is busy with four kids, a dog, and two cats. I love getting outside with my family, whether we’re exploring a trail or finding a place to swim. When I get a quiet moment to myself, a good book and a strong, spicy chai are my favorite company.
I know what it means to need help and to face systems that can be hard to navigate. As a young single mother, I relied on programs that helped my family find stability. That experience stays with me in the Legislature. I want Vermont’s choices to meet people’s needs today while making life more secure for the next generation.
I start by listening to the people a decision will affect. In the House Human Services Committee, I bring what I hear from our communities into the work of writing and reviewing policy. I look for choices that help people now, hold up over time, and share the benefits and burdens fairly.
